The Broncos signed running back Marcus Thomas late last week after waiving Ryan Torain, who was hurt. On Sunday they signed rookie running back Marcus Thigpen, who played at Indiana, because of injuries to Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter.
McDaniels didn't specify Buckhalter's injury, saying only he would return when ready. Moreno has a knee injury. Thigpen practiced with the team Sunday.
"(Running backs coach) Bobby Turner, give him credit for those guys being out here and being able to function in our system and our offense, they know what to do enough so we can put them in there," McDaniels said.
Moreno could miss a week or two, but McDaniels said he wasn't worried about the injury being a huge step back in his progress before the regular-season opener.
"I think he’ll be all right," McDaniels said. "Whenever he gets back and he’s ready to go, there will be plenty of practices left. What are we, just under a month now to the opener? He’ll have plenty of time to get caught up to speed. Mentally he’s on top of things and he’ll continue to be on top of things mentally. And we’ll have to push him late to get him going. I’m not concerned about it right now."
