During the media availability period, which lasted about 20 minutes, quarterback Kyle Orton looked pretty sharp. He wore a glove on his injured right hand but threw pretty well. All of his passes were spirals and seemed to have normal velocity. He even handed off once with his right hand – which doesn’t sound like much, but could be painful when recovering from a dislocated index finger. Chris Simms, who is recovering from a high ankle sprain, moved pretty well.
Aside from the quarterbacks, Denver had receiver Jabar Gaffney (thumb) back at practice with an orange non-contact jersey. Running back Knowshon Moreno (knee) also wore a non-contact jersey. Safety Brian Dawkins has ditched his huge club cast for a smaller cast. Those missing practice because of injuries were guard Chris Kuper, defensive end Le Kevin Smith and safety Josh Barrett. Tight end Richard Quinn, who was arrested Monday, was also not present at the open period of practice.
